Tim is President and Chief Executive Officer of Spire Sharwood which he joined in 1991. Prior to joining Sharwood and Company, Tim was co-founder and President of Mercury Capital a private merchant bank specializing in aircraft leasing and venture investing. Tim started his career at Grindlays Bank plc., an international commercial and merchant banking group headquartered in London, England. Tim worked for Grindlays in London, Beirut and Bahrain before returning to Canada as President of the Bank’s Schedule B Canadian subsidiary.
Tim graduated from the University of Manitoba with a BA in economics and completed Citibank's executive international training program in Beirut and Athens.
Michael is a Managing Director of Spire Sharwood. Prior to joining Spire Sharwood in 2003, Michael spent twenty years at a major Canadian financial institution, the last ten as Vice-President Commercial Banking. Michael has extensive experience in Corporate Finance, Real Estate and strategic analysis, with over $3.0 billion in transactions completed.
Michael received a BA from Carleton University and an MBA from the University of Western Ontario.
Ellen is a Director at Spire Sharwood. Ellen joined Spire Sharwood in 1999 from Deloitte & Touche Corporate Finance where she was Vice President and Director of its Private Placements Group. In this role Ellen structured, negotiated and syndicated several non-recourse financing transactions. Prior to joining Deloitte & Touche Ellen was a Relationship Manager, Corporate Banking at the Bank of Nova Scotia where she managed a $ 500 million portfolio of non-investment grade debt and structured project loans. Ellen started her career as an articling student at Ernst & Young, chartered accountants.
Ellen obtained her CA in 1991. She also holds an MBA from the University of Western Ontario, a B. Comm. from the University of Windsor and a BA from Queen’s University.
Gordon Sharwood (1932-2012) was the Honourary Chairman of Spire Sharwood. Spire Sharwood is the successor company to Sharwood and Company, which Gordon founded in 1976. He started his career with CIBC where he rose to the position of Chief General Manager. Gordon subsequently became Chairman of Traders Group Ltd and later Chairman of Guaranty Trust. He was the founding Chairman of First Choice Canadian Communications Corporation, the first pay-tv Channel in Canada.
Gordon was also the founding Chairman of the Canadian Association of Family Enterprise (CAFÉ) and was heavily involved in a wide variety of community activities.
Gordon graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He subsequently went to Oxford where he obtained a Master of Arts in Jurisprudence.
